CMAA MMA Showdown III - Results PDF Print E-mail

Nearly 150 Spectators enjoyed an action packed event at the Combined Martial Arts Academy (CMAA) which hosted a MMA Mixed Martial Arts competition at its training facility located at the Tetra Pak building complex in Jalan Buncit Raya on Saturday 26th September 2009.  Fighters from various clubs and styles from Balikpapan, Bandung, Surabaya and Jakarta attended the event.  Six fights were held with a seventh being cancelled with the last minute withdrawal of Kelapa Gading Synergy Jujitsu fighter Budi Hermanto who was matched to fight CMAA fighter Drew Lambert.

The event started with the junior bout between Jujitsu Blue Belt fighter, from club spider, Reiner  Pasha matched with CMAA fighter Vincent Tamin.  The fight ended at the end of the first 5 minute round when referee Zuli Hilawanto declared the CMAA fighter, Vincent Tamin,  the winner.  Both fighters spirited display ended with Vincent Tamin gaining the upper hand over his opponent whose endurance was weakening toward the end of the first 5 minute round.

The next fight proved to be the hardest of the event with two heavy weight fighters going the full distance dishing out pound for pound blows.  CMAA fighter Adam Taylor whose training includes various martial arts including a kickboxing background having trained in Australia and the Middle East before joining the CMAA.  Adam trained in Jakarta before opening a CMAA class in Balikpapan.  Adam fought experienced National Greco Roman Wrestling Heavyweight champion Antony Romulus from the Tiger Shark Fighting Club.

Adam Taylor managed to better Antony Romulus early in the first round giving him a bloody nose.  Referee Glen Gardiner called time to allow the Tiger Shark seconds to attend their fighter before resuming the fight.  Later in the first round the Tiger shark fighter took a knee to the head opening his face below the left eye.  Once again the fight was suspended to allow the fighter to be attended.  Both fighters showed tremendous spirit throughout the 10 minute 2 round fight. The fight was no way one sided with Antony Romulus delivering some punishing blows to Adam Taylor who responded with some of the most powerful thigh kicks seen in the entire event.  At one stage both fighters received a tremendous blow to the shin when Antony Romulus checked a shattering shin kick from Adam Taylor.  Both fighters split their shins open with Adam Taylor later receiving ten stitches.  Although Antony Romulus showed incredible spirit refusing to stop fighting he was defeated by Adam Taylor after going the full distance of the fight.
