Niko Han established the Indonesian Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation (IBJJF) and is organizing submission grappling competitions throughout Indonesia to promote and popularize the sport. December, 2005, saw the 1st Indonesian Submission Wrestling Championship with the 2nd championship on 9th December 2006. He is planning a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu event to be held on 17 June 2007 at the Wrestling Hall (Gate 5), Main Stadium Gelora Bung Karno, Senayan, Central Jakarta. Niko is also associated with the Indonesian Mixed Martial Art Organization (OMI), and is a referee/judge in the biggest local MMA event, TPI Fighting Championship. Niko’s training in Brazilian jiu-jitsu began in October, 1996 at Rickson Gracie's academy in LA, California. He has trained with some of the most respected mixed martial arts fighters in the US including Marc Laimon, Ethan Milius, Marcus Vinicius, Bas Rutten, Marco Ruas, Pedro Rizzo, Dharell Gholar, Oleg Taktarov and many other well known professional fighters. In the late 1990’s he started grappling with veteran, Eddie Bravo, and BJJ and ADCC World Champion Jean-Jacques Machado. In 2000 he began freestyle wrestling at the RAW Training Center in El Segundo, California under Ricco Chipparelli and Frank Trigg. That year he joined the collegiate wrestling club of University of California under Coach Rey. In 2001 Niko began teaching Brazilian jiu-jitsu at UCLA, and took up boxing at L.A. Boxing gym in South Central Los Angeles later moving to Bill Slayton's Broadway Boxing Gym in Watts, California.
In 2002, Niko moved to Las Vegas, Nevada training with Marc Laimon and continued boxing at UNLV. While returning to Indonesia, he visited Brazil, training at Nova Uniao Academy in Rio de Janeiro under Andre "Dede" Pedeneiras, the multiple BJJ World champion and MMA champion Vitor "Shaolin" Ribeiro, the multiple BJJ world champion and ADCC submission wrestling world champion Leo Vieira, the multiple BJJ world champion Fernando Terere, and Eduardo Telles.
