Glen Gardiner - Sensei

Glen Gardiner commenced his martial arts training in the early 1980's and has since trained in 16 different martial arts systems. He has trained with many noted and experienced martial artists adding considerable depth to his understanding of many systems. His brother Martin Gardiner Sensei and Sensei's John Whipp and Gordon Armstrong had a pivotal influence in his development.

He qualified as a Military Unarmed Combat (MUC) Instructor training Army units throughout Australia and members of specialist Australian policing organisations. From 1990-1998 Glen instructed on nearly every MUC Exponent and Instructor course conducted in the Australian Army in Australia during that period. In that time he met some of the most respected names in Australian MUC including Mr. Ken "Blue" Curran, Denis Gaskell, Greg Mawkes, his teacher John Whipp, and many more.Glen Gardiner - Sensei

Glen considers himself as having been extremely lucky being exposed to many exceptional instructors and mentors who have assisted the development of his martial arts experience.

He teaches Zen Goshu Goshin Jutsu, IBF Batto Do, and Cacoy Doce Pares Eskrima from the CDPE WF system. He is a founding member of and the current Senior Instructor at the Combined Martial Arts Academy, a non profit organization for the development of martial arts.

Established the Combined Martial Arts Academy (CMAA) in Jakarta Indonesia, and trained a team from Indonesia to fight in the Cacoy Doce Pares Eskrima World Federation (CDPE WF) 2006 World stick fighting Championship participating as the team captain and coach while also competing. The team consisting of 7 competitors won 2 Gold, 5 Silver and 3 Bronze in the sparring divisions of the competition. Glen personally won 1 Gold, 1 Silver and 1 Bronze after being absent from the ring for a period of ten years.
Graded 6th degree black belt in the CDPE WF system by Grand Master Cacoy Canete.

2007

Trained the Indonesian team who fielded 27 competitors for the 2007 Cacoy Doce Pares Eskrima World Federation (CDPE WF) World Stick fighting Championship, the team won a total of 12 Gold, 13 Silver, and 13 Bronze medals in the events sparring divisions. Glen promoted and raised sponsorship for the World Championship hosting the event in Jakarta Indonesia with representation from 11 countries, he was the event Tournament Director for the event and hosted the Australian Ambassador, Polish Ambassador, Head of the Indonesian National Police and other Diplomatic and Embassy, Indonesian Government, Military and Corporate Sector representatives during the event.
Later in the year Glen travelled to Timor Lestè where he headed a Review Team for the Royal Norwegian Embassy Section Dili in Timor Lestè to establish the feasibility of conducting nation wide sporting programs for Martial Arts and Ritual Arts gangs in the country as part of an overall peace capacity development program for the government of Timor Lestè.

2008

Inducted into the Cacoy Doce Pares Eskrima World Federation Hall of Fame “For Excellence in The Promotion of Sports Eskrima” in March 2008.
Inducted into the Australasian Martial Arts Hall of Fame and the World Karate Union Hall of Fame under the "Martial Artist of the Year" Category on 4 October 2008 in the Gold Coast, Australia.
Glen attended the inaugural New Zealand National Stick fighting Championship in Christchurch on 26th October 2008; was the team coach for the Indonesian team and competed, winning a Gold, a Silver and a Bronze in the competition, the team won a total of seven medals.
Assisted Irwan Hermawan and other members of the CMAA organize the Inaugural National Indonesian Knife Fighting Competition, "Blademaster 2008" with over 80 competitors,
Under Glen’s guidance the Combined Martial Arts Academy, developed fitness, body awareness and self defence training programs for International Schools in Jakarta Indonesia.

2009

Coached the Indonesian team comprising 17 competitors for the 2009 Cacoy Doce Pares Eskrima World Federation (CDPE WF) World Stick fighting Championship in Cebu Philippines and competed in the event winning a Gold and a Silver. The team won a total of 6 Gold, 10 Silver, and 8 Bronze medals in the events sparring and form divisions.

Steve Young

Steve's martial arts experience has considerable depth from training with many experienced martial artists from various styles. His friend's and instructor's, Sensei's Joe De Valter and Steve Pitcher both had a pivotal influence in his development during his years of training in Mount Isa, as did his Senior instructor, John Harris, Sensei. Over the years Steve continued in the development of his art and actively competing in karate championships over the years. As a result of his travels in Asia he has trained in the Philippines, Singapore, and Indonesia. Steve assisted in the establishment of the Combined Martial Arts Academy in Jakarta, Indonesia where he currently trains and instructs.

 

1981

Commenced martial arts training in Mount Isa, Australia with the Sikaran Karate Brotherhood of Australia which is affiliated with the founding club in Baras Rizal, Philippines. He trained in Mt Isa full time for 5 years.

1982

Competed in the Townsville Full contact Open Karate Championship.

1983

Completed St Johns First Aid Course, continued training.

1984

Competed in the North Queensland Games in Townsville and in a variety of local and interclub club tournaments during his 5 years training in Mt Isa, Completed Level One Sports Coach, Coaching Accreditation Program, Sponsored by the Australian Institute of Sport.

1985

Competed in the Cairns Open Karate Championship ran by Matsamoto Sensei, 7th degree black belt who's other credentials include gradings in Ju Jitsu, Aikido and Shorinji-Kempo. Graded 1st degree black belt, Shodan, by John Harris Sensei. Steve was an instructor at the club for several years and also taught children's classes and women's self defense classes.

Alan entered the Inverness Karate Club (IKC) in January 1975 at the age of 14. The IKC practiced the Shotokan Style of Karate, which has a more modern approach but with its roots still firmly based in Japanese Karate systems. Alan was extremely lucky to have as resident Chief Instructor to the UK, from the Japan, Karate Association (JKA), Sensei S. Kato, now an 8th Dan.

Under the guidance of Sensei Kato, Alan became a Senior Instructor within the UK, JKA Association in 1985. Alan was also guided by and trained with Sensei Brian Woods, who was the first non Japanese to complete the notorious JKA Instructors Course in Japan. Alan was fortunate to have trained with all the Senior Instructors and World Champions within the JKA association both in the UK and Japan. He was a member of the Scottish Team during the period 1982 - 1991. He was also the Scottish Team Captain during the period 1989 - 1991. Alan was also a member of the British International Team during the period 1986 - 1991. Alan assisted in the establishment of and currently trains and instructs at the Combined Martial Arts Academy in Jakarta, Indonesia.

1988

Competed in the JKA UK Nationals placing 3rd in Individual Kata, 1st in Team Kata, attended a 3 week intensive training and competition course in Japan as member of the British Team.

1989

Competed in the JKA UK Nationals placing 2nd in Individual Kata, 1st in Team Kata.

1990

Graded 4th Dan, black belt, Yondan, by Sensei Kato, competed in the JKA UK Nationals placing 3rd in Individual Kata, and 2nd in Team Kumite.

1991

Competed in the JKA UK Nationals placing 1st in Individual Kata. "Unofficially" retired from competition but continued to Instruct and Train at highest levels.

1997

Trained the Indonesian Karate Team for the South East Asian Games, also instructed at various clubs in Jakarta, Indonesia.

2000

"Unofficially" retired from Karate.

2006

Joined the Combined Martial Arts Academy, Jakarta, Indonesia and commenced training and instructing. Competed in the Cacoy Doce pares World Federation 2006 World Championship Winning silver in the Double stick division for his age and weight group.
